when my outboard powered boat was new it did not porpoise; now it porpoises at high speeds. what could have possibly changed?
Are you carrying more or heavier people? The increase in operational weight and/or allowing the longitudinal center of gravity (LCG) to shift aft will result in a boat porpoising (pitch and heave oscillations) at a lower speed than when it was new. Also, trimming your engines out can also contribute to lowering the speed at which the boat will begin porpoising. Check the change in boat weight, LCG shift aft and engine trim you are now using. The answer to your question is likely to be found within the results from the checks of weight, LCG and engine trim.
