my boat leans or heels to one side or the other when speeds are greater than 20 to 25 knots. what could cause this?

Your boat is most likely exhibiting a dynamic instability. The most frequent causes are related to one or a combination of the following circumstances; the longitudinal center of gravity (LCG) is too far forward for the shape of the wetted portion of the hull lines, the weight of the hull is greater than the wetted dimensions of the hull lines can consistently and adequately support and/or the rudders are ventilating which can lift the stern of the boat.

Diagnosing possible causes suggest that eliminating any rudder ventilation should be the initial approach. Then removing weight forward of the LCG or adding temporary weight aft to increase running trim. If these actions do not correct minor heeling problems, then consult a naval architect for professional assistance.
